Featured #SciFan Subgenre: Dystopian

conquestcover8A Dystopian novel is an imaginary society that is as dehumanizing and as unpleasant as possible and is primarily characterized by human misery, squalor, oppression and/or disease. This society doesn’t necessarily need to exist on Earth to be considered dystopic.

In my novel Conquest: Rise of the Fifth Horseman, my readers first find themselves following the storyline of a man named Allan and his would-be fiancée Lily who live and work in modern-day Chicago. Unbeknownst to him, Lily is actually an undercover NSA agent that was assigned to monitor his actions and pretend to be a love interest. The reason why the NSA is watching him so closely, is because they’ve developed a new tracking software that monitors the activity of every living person on the planet using microscopic Nano technology. In Allan’s case and one other person however, the technology somehow keeps malfunctioning and frying the tiny hardware.
Lily.pngEvery 500 years a new Seraph Awakens, who is the guardian of the worlds Earth and Zion. The first Seraph was Methuselah, son of Enoch. Following Enoch came Noah. This tradition continued unbeknownst to the majority of mankind. The world of Zion was ruled by the capital city of Atlantis, and each Seraph serves as its king. The last five Seraphim are also known biblically as the Horsemen of the Apocalypse…

John the Beloved is the First Horseman: his amulets are a Crown and a Bow. He is called Conquest. He still lives to this day, and is one of the main characters in my book. When his powers are manifested, his eyes glow white.
Attila the Hun was the Second Horseman: His amulet was the great Sword of Mars. He is called War. When his powers are manifested, his eyes glow red.

20161004_234910.jpgAlexios I Komnenos was the Third Horseman: His amulet was a pair of scales to remind him of God’s wrath for the Crusades that took place at his command. He is called Famine. When his powers are manifested, his eyes turn black.

Timur the Lame (a.k.a. Tamerlane, Timur Demyan) is the Fourth Horseman: His amulet consists of a reliquary full of the cremated ashes of his predecessor Alexios I Komnenos. He is called Death. He is still alive today, and is the main villian in my book. When his powers are manifested, his eyes glow a sickly-green color.

But hidden to the knowledge of the world, John the Beloved holds a secret. There is to be a Fifth Horseman: and now Allan has just Awakened as the Final Seraph.
As the story unfolds, the readers are magically transported to the World of Zion. But unlike the pure Utopian society that Zionists commonly imagine Zion to be, the world of Zion has been plagued by the destructive will of a primeval darkness called the Leviathan for centuries. He has fed off of the souls of men, and his fodder has become scarce. He now turns to Earth with an insatiable hunger.
Allan.pngThe Leviathan is a dark entity that encompasses the entire World of Zion that manifests itself as a black cloud with glowing red eyes. For those who have yielded up their souls unto him, the Leviathan’s voice is ever present in their minds: commanding them to carry out his dastardly plans. The Leviathan is God’s greatest enemy, and in the beginning God protected the Earth by creating the firmament – a protective barrier in Earth’s atmosphere that prevents the Leviathan from corrupting the souls of mankind. The final plans are in place to thwart God’s protective firmament by combining elements of technology and ancient magic to create a Rapture-like event, causing billions of people to transport to Zion where their souls can be devoured.

In this alternate reality where in ancient times two of Earth’s largest continents mysteriously vanished to this world Zion, Allan and Lily are spirited away to this evil-plagued world where dragons rule the skies and an evil darkness lurks in the shadows. Will they be able to tame the newly-discovered divine powers growing within them in time to prevent Earth’s apocalyptic fate? The weight of both worlds bear down upon their shoulders and only time will tell if they has what it takes to save mankind.
