My name is Mary R. Woldering, author of the Historical fantasy series Children of Stone.
The series is based on a chronicle of dreams, discussions and meditations which began half a century ago among a group of fast friends.
Some of the events and people bear strange resemblance to images I would see later in life.
I’m bringing my main protagonist Marai bin Ahu, because it’s mostly his journey and the journeys of those he influences that make the tales of the Children of Stone.
At the start Marai is a painfully shy man who spends his days in self-imposed hermitage. He tends a small flock of sheep and when his work is done, climbs up to his cave home in the cliffs.
He’s tall, (a half-giant, they say) muscular and big, with a craggy face and almost mean-looking eyes. He has dark, tangled hair with sunburnt ends and and a beard.. His skin is bronze.
He feels crippled and cursed by his past; unloveable… but sings praises to his goddess Ashera.
One night while he is singing…
Here is a YouTube of me reading the first 2 short chapters of Book 1 Voices in Crystal so you can get a feeling for this great guy.
