Author Spotlight: C.A. King

About the Author

When we asked C.A. King to describe herself, her immediate response was the following:
Who am I?…Who am I?
Silence…chews pencil…
Who am I?…Who am I?
I am…
a daydreamer… a hopeless romantic… an optimistic pessimist… a psychic… a childish adult… an animal lover… an over-emotional wreck… an adventurer… an artistic fool…
I am…A Fiction Writer!
Nice to meet you!”

C.A. King was diagnosed with clinical depression after the loss of her mother, father and husband within three years of each other – to cancer. The years of 24/7 in-home care, coupled with the loss she felt, left its mark on her psyche.

Depression takes up a lot of her life. Reading and writing are the only things she has found that help (in connection with regular medication), even if only for a short time. To escape to a different world can make a big difference in her mood in real life.

To put things in perspective, when she was at her lowest point, she couldn’t open mail, talk on the phone, or even drive to the store. Walls of sadness surrounded her. As they closed in, tears would fall. There didn’t need to be a reason or trigger.

When people ask her why she started writing, her answer is simple: she wanted to create a world other people could escape to. She wanted to share the place that had helped her for many years.

“I always said that as long as one person finds a little bit of happiness out of my books, I am, in my opinion, an accomplished author. The same is true for every writer out there. Please don’t ever let anyone tell you different.”

In her spare time she is an avid reader and writes a weekly column, articles and book reviews for Books & Quills Magazine. This gives her the opportunity to learn more about new authors and take an in depth look at a society in which stories and tales are born.

“Did I mention I love Groot?”

Some Final Words From the Author

“I love the Sci-Fan mash-up category. Having said that my stories tend to be Fan-Sci. You’ll find a lot of the elements of Fantasy and bits of Science Fiction tying it together.

Tomoiya’s Story is the perfect example. The books are about Vampires and where the myths we know today came from, but it is not set on this planet – Vampires in outer space on far away planets.

There is, usually, an alien presence in all of my works, some more subtle than others.
