Sam Melvin, an underachieving e-reporter from a small town, changes forever when he meets turkeys that won’t stay dead. You can shoot ’em, chop ’em, burn ’em—they come back stronger. The undead plague of poultry spreads uncontrollably, rocking the whole country. As Sam tracks down the zombie turkeys and how to eradicate them, his editor, Lisa Kambacher, nags him to turn his stories and expenses in on time. During their years of working together, Lisa has mellowed from bitchy into an irascible pinchpenny.

Lisa snipes at Sam for plebeian writing but uses her intelligence to pursue the lucrative carnivorous turkey story. Sam and Lisa ricochet across the landscape, tracking turkeys and fleeing the bloodthirsty hordes. Careening from shell-shocked grocery store owners fighting turkeys crawling out of refrigerators, to machine-gunning turkey farmers, to secret militia, Sam and Lisa doggedly report. Throughout the turkey apocalypse, they dare ravaged cities, plow knee deep in gore and corpses, and upload streams of zombie turkey video news to the world.

With paranoid militias clashing with the federal government and unkillable turkeys, Sam and Lisa doubt their ability to survive. Sam and Lisa have no superpowers. If you have a heart condition or lack humor, you should not read Zombie Turkeys, no matter how much you want to find out what happens.

Author Spotlight: Joyce Hertzoff

joyceRetiring in 2008 after forty-five years in the scientific literature publishing business, SciFan author Joyce Hertzoff moved from the dreary mid-west to the sunny southwest where she and her husband love their mountain view and spicy food.

Joyce tried her hand at a novel for the 2008 NaNoWriMo, producing a romantic mystery that’s still in the editing phase. Since then, through several more NaNo sessions and classes at Writers Village University, she wrote two fantasy series and several short stories. The Crimson Orb, the first novel in The Crystal Odyssey series, was published by the Phantasm Books imprint of Assent Publications in June, 2014. In August 2015 she self-published A Bite of the Apple, a YA novella. Both The Crimson Orb and A Bite of the Apple are SciFan stories.

Joyce also wrote two flash mysteries: Natural Causes and Say Cheese, which were published in the anthologies The Darwin Murders and Tasteful Murders respectfully. A short story of hers, Princess Petra, also appears in The Way Back anthology.
Currently she works as a mentor and facilitator for online classes at Writers Village University. She’s also a member of Southwest Writers, and participates in two offline critique groups.

They secure passage from East Harbor to Fairhaven, the capital of the East Islands. At the Citadel in Fairhaven, they are joined by Madoc’s brother Gareth, sister Carys, and two of Gareth’s men. Their perilous journey back across the sea by ship, then south on horseback and west through the Frozen Tundra of Sorn eventually brings them to Meecham, a town teaming with Orb seekers. They learn Madoc is being held by four outlaws, who believe he can lead them to the red crystal before anyone else. Through their adventures, Nissa learns how little she knows about her world. She is able to develop unexpected skills, including the ability to mindspeak with Madoc. Will Nissa and her companions be able to use their combined abilities to rescue Madoc? Is the Orb really in Meecham?

Author Spotlight: Rose Montague

Rose Montague has worked both in a library as well as several bookstores. Rose lives in Elon, NC and is currently working on a Sci-Fi/Urban Fantasy book called Wiznewski James.

Reading Order: The chronological order of her novels is Jade, Jane, & Jill followed by the Norma Jean’s School of Witchery series, Jewel and Ghost School. Jill bridges the gap between the Three J’Amigos and Norma Jean’s School of Witchery. She wrote these novels in a manner in which a reader could instead start with Jewel & Ghost School and then read the Three J’amigos series to get the back story on Jewel’s adoptive parents, Jade & Jane as well as her Godmother, Jill.

Her Goal: To have fun writing fun books to read.

Her Writing Style: Not much pretty prose or flowery fluffiness, pretty much non-stop action and fun.

Her Dream: To be able to write full time.

Today we are featuring her novel, Jade. Now available for only 99 cents!

Featured eBook – Publish Promote Repeat: Preparing to Launch your Book Workbook by Dr. Lucinda Moebius

The producers of SciFan™ Magazine wish to express our sincere gratitude to the many generous contributions of Indie authors who have helped us face head-on our many challenges (which you can learn more about here). Between words of encouragement, helpful recommendations, and some monetary assistance, you have all helped bring us into the limelight. I’d like to share with all of you some statistics:

SciFan August Stats.PNG

Since inception on September 29th 2016, our site had been steadily building and waning in traffic. Last month however our public reach utterly exploded! We nearly reached thirty-thousand views in only one month! So, you might be asking… how is this possible?

A key factor to our seriously increased exposure was in large part to the help of Dr. Lucinda Moebius. She is the author of Publish Promote Repeat: Preparing to Launch your Book Workbook as well as many more excellent works. She is the leader of the Facebook group Science Fiction, Fantasy and other genres: learning to promote effectively which consists of over 4,700 authors.

Last year Dr. Moebius launched the #YourNextFavoriteAuthor initiative, and she hosts a large number of spotlights for indie authors on her blog at http://mynextfavoriteauthor.blogspot.com/. This initiative originally started out with a promotion called King of the Hill which consisted of a large number of indie authors dedicating their time and talents to one ‘King’ author until that author was dethroned by a certain set of parameters. It was a brilliant idea that worked well for a while, but fizzled out after a few months. Dr. Moebius then went back to the drawing board, and developed a brand new program called 30 Days 30 Authors, of which our Co-Producer Richard M. Mulder participated in during the month of August 2017. Clearly as you can see from the results above, her strategy worked wonders!

Are you an author trying to market your books? Many of the strategies Dr. Moebius offers are laid out in her eBook Publish Promote Repeat: Preparing to Launch your Book Workbook, which is available for a very affordable price of only 99 cents. Go grab your copy today!

Author Spotlight: Bree Moore

Bree Moore has been writing fantasy since the fourth grade. She lives in Ogden, is wife to an amazing husband, and the mother of four children. She writes fantasy novels between doling out cheerios and folding laundry. “Woven” is Bree’s first published novel, the start of what she intends to be an epic writing career. In real-life, Bree works as a birth doula and midwife’s assistant, attending women in pregnancy and labor, which is huge inspiration for her writing. For thirty years, Elaina has sat in her tower, fingers caught in an eternal dance, cursed to weave the tapestry of life on her loom. Bound by an enchanted mirror whose magic shows her the distant lives of the people of Camelot, she must forever watch a land which remains ever beyond her reach. Elaina despairs that she will ever experience more than just the shadows of life, until one day a face appears in the mirror that will change her life, and possibly her fate, forever.

Guinevere is losing her mind. When a severe injury to her head nearly kills her and awakens alternate personalities suppressed from her past, Guinevere learns that one of them is plotting with a knight of the round table to murder King Arthur and take control of Camelot. In the midst of war, Guinevere fights to save both her own life and the man she loves, each day coming closer to succumbing to the violent personalities within her.

Inspired by Arthurian legend and Lord Alfred Tennyson’s ballad, “The Lady of Shalott”, Woven spins a tale of two women who must risk everything to save those they love most into an epic of enchantment, love, and madness.
